ITRI has announced the launch of ‘Tindex’, a fully searchable index to its tin document archive, which is for the first time available on-line. The Tindex contains around 50,000 references to documents, which are held in the ITRI archive. Registration to gain access to this information is free of charge and is a quick and simple process.

The Tindex is the result of more than 70 years of work by librarians at ITRI, previously known as the ‘International Tin Research Institute’. It contains published scientific papers on tin and its uses, as well as an extensive specialist archive of in-house journals, unpublished research results and market information.

“The Tindex extends back to 1932 – much further than current online databases and includes many otherwise untraceable references,” comments Dr. Jeremy Pearce, Technology and Information Forecasting Manager. “This information was previously only available to people who visited ITRI. It is an exciting new tool for the development of future tin technologies and a valuable reference source for the global research community.”

Currently the on-line index covers the period up to the mid 1990's with each record giving details of the title, author, reference and classification. In the future, the Tindex will be expanded to incorporate more recent references to tin and its applications. In addition, it is expected that abstracts to key documents will also be included and in some cases links will be available to the documents in a pdf format.
